An international ergonomics conference at ETU!
Third International Conference Ergo-2018: Human Factors in Complex Technical Systems and Environments will take place on July 4-7, 2018 at St. Petersburg Electrotechnical University "LETI".
Inter-Regional Ergonomics Association Russia; St. Petersburg Electrotechnical University “LETI”;The Institute of Psychology of Russian Academy of Sciences; International Ergonomics Association; Federation of European Ergonomics Societies and Croatian Ergonomics Society co-organized the conference.
The conference is being held at ETU “LETI” for the first time in history. St. Petersburg Energetics Institute of Higher Education hosted two of its predecessors - ERGO 2014 and 2016. 20 years after the Soviet Ergonomics Association held its conference on ergonomics in 1993, interest to issues of human factors was ignited in industrial and non-industrial sectors of the Russian economy once again.
Experts of theoretical and practical ergonomics, representatives of industries and businesses from Russia, Brazil, Hungary, China, Finland, Croatia and South Africa will talk over methodological and systemic issues of ergonomics; training and certification of ergonomists; ergonomic design; cognitive ergonomics; ergatic (human-machine), intellectual, mechatronic and robotic systems; work environment, occupational safety and health protection; home, medical and social ergonomics; and ergonomic solutions supporting reliable human performance under extreme conditions.
Participants from all over the world will discuss research and best practices in the field of ergonomics at the sub-forum entitled “Ergonomics at BRICS Countries and the EU”.
Plenary sessions, sub-forums, poster sessions, round table discussions, seminars, workshops and excursions are on the conference agenda. Working languages of the Conference are English and Russian.
Presidium meeting of the BRICSplus Network will take place as a part of the conference. Representatives of the International Ergonomics Association (IEA), Federation of European Ergonomics Societies (FEES), Nordic Ergonomics and Human Factors Society (NES), Centre for Registration of European Ergonomists (CREE), as well as two Russian universities – MSU and ETU will discuss the future of a joint educational program on ergonomics and human factors.
“BRICSplus Network is a new international association of BRICS countries. It is aimed at developing and implementing joint educational programs on ergonomics at universities of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. If world leaders of ergonomics education join efforts, they will be able to effectively introduce best practices to their own curriculums, improve specialist training and produce graduates who are employable at BRICS countries.“
The conference is expected to catalyze joint research of human interaction with technical objects, complex systems and environments.
For future reference
Since 1980s ETU “LETI” has been one of the best places to learn ergonomics in Russia. The First Electrotechnical University has established a unique scientific school on design and optimization of man-machine systems and human-oriented technology. The university has been an active member of the International Ergonomics Association. In 1982 ETU “LETI” was the first university in the USSR to start a specialist training program titled “Ergonomics in automation”. The scientific school titled “Evaluation and Optimization of Man-machine Systems and Technologies” has developed at ETU “LETI” for the last three decades. Prof. Pavel I. Paderno, laureate of the State Prize of the Russian Federation, Honored Scientist, Doctor of Engineering is the head of the school. The research areas explored at the university are connected with ergonomic support for the creation of various modern software and information systems. ETU “LETI” conducts specialist training of highly qualified ergonomics professionals. “System analysis and control” and “Ergonomics” are the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs respectvily that conduct such training.
