IBM Innovation Day was held at LETI
IBM, ETU "LETI" and "Skolkovo" fund arranged a joint conference on "Smart technologies for "rational" St. Petersburg" on October 3, 2014.
IBM, ETU "LETI" and "Skolkovo" fund arranged a joint conference on "Smart technologies for "rational" St. Petersburg" on October 3, 2014. The event was devoted to discussion of current issues on improving of quality of citizens life with the help of innovative technology. Rector of the ETU V.M. Kutuzov opened the conference focusing attention on importance of cooperation between leading universities, government and commercial organizations. Then Michael Wirth, Technical Director of IBM EE/A, provided description of technology of IBM's strategy and together with Ivan Kireev, Head of Foresight "Cloud and breakthrough technologies" of IT-cluster of "Skolkovo" fund, pointed out that without universities and their scientific work innovative solutions can not be built.
The first part of the conference was devoted to a discussion of how information technology can help cities respond to the current challenges in the face of constantly rising urbanization of society. IBM represented its latest achievements in the field of transport system, water supply and energy network of the city. Anika Schumann, leading researcher at IBM in Dublin (Ireland), presented experience of successful implementation of a number of software projects in the field of "smart" technologies for the city.
The second part of the conference touched on the themes of the latest achievements of IBM in IT: cognitive technologies, cloud computing, Big Data Analytics. The first in Russia IBM Bluemix Meetup designed to allow outside developers to have direct contact with the developers of IBM and get a first-hand experience was held in the frameworks of the event. Reports on these topics were presented by employees of Science and Technology Center of IBM in Russia Nikolay Marin, Artem Semenihin, Peter Kalambet and Alex Miroshkin.
"Cooperation of the ETU with IBM has been developing for many years and has intensified in recent years. It is very diverse and meets the interests of our university. That partnership with leading companies allows the university to develop successfully basing on modern information technologies," - said the rector of ETU Vladimir Kutuzov.
"We were happy to spend Innovation Day in LETI this year," - says Michael Wirth, Technical Director, of IBM EE / A. - "These joint events not only help us to strengthen the relationship between our two organizations in terms of commercial interaction but also to synchronize our scientific and technological areas."
Ivan Kireev from Skolkovo fund noted overall inspiring atmosphere during the conference: "Skolkovo welcomes young scientific and technical teams of LETI and hopes to see them as participants in the project to build innovative technologies in the Russian Federation together."
