On April 21 a monument to radio inventor Alexander S. Popov was inaugurated in St. Petersburg State Electrotechnical University "LETI".

In his speech the rector of "LETI" Vladimir Kutuzov said there was good reason that the monument took a new location - it was within the walls of our university where this great professor, a first elected director of the institute gave lessons and did research. Alexander Popov spent his last days in the house that stands next to the monument. The current generation of scientists of our university continues the tradition of scientific founder of the national school of radio. "I believe that today this place will become more attractive for both students and visitors," - said the rector of ETU.

The right to open the monument was given to the Director of the ETU Memorial Museum of A.S. Popov Larisa I. Zolotinkina and Dean of Faculty of Radio Engineering Viktor N. Malyshev.

Opening of the monument took place in the frameworks of scientific conference devoted to the 120th anniversary of invention of the radio, the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the Radio day, the 70th anniversary of NTORES (research and technology association of radio engineering, electronics engineering and connection), as well as the 125th anniversary of birth of the founder of the first in the country Department of Radio Engineering Professor I.G. Freiman. On the eve of the opening an exhibition "Inventing of A.S. Popov of the world's first radio in the scientific literature and in the commemorative print media". On the site of University Library there are virtual exhibitions devoted to the anniversaries.

In 1958 it was installed on the tetrahedral pedestal of pink granite on Stone Island in front of Research Institute of broadcast reception and acoustics named after the A.S. Popov.
