International students at ETU “LETI”: with an ETU academic certificate to the next level
Graduates of the Preparatory Department for International Students will be officially awarded academic certificates. The “Milestone reached” ceremony will take place on June 28th at 3 p.m. in the Events Hall of Building 5.
61 students from Australia, Argentina, Vietnam, Germany, Iran, Spain, Italy, Canada, China, Cote d'Ivoire, Morocco, Nigeria, France, USA and other countries graduated from the preparatory department of ETU this year. They received training at three main study programs: engineering, economics and humanities.
Viktor A. Tupik, Vice-Rector for International Affairs, Renat A. Yalyshev, Head of the International Students Office, Aleksandra V. Kilina, Head of the Preparatory Department for International Students will take part in the official ceremony.
The Preparatory Department for International Students was founded in 1946 to enable international students to enter educational institutions of the former USSR and promote the Russian language and culture in the world.
Now ETU “LETI” offers international students a wide variety of educational programs in engineering, economics and humanities, as well as such specialized training courses as “Russian for Post Graduate Students”. Students can take a summer school of the Russian language, various internships, individual study programs, modules of study related to sociocultural adaptation.
The engineering study program is aimed at providing future engineers with the stepping stone for them to continue education. They receive the knowledge of the Russian language, Mathematics, Physics, and Informatics.
The economics study program offers international students an opportunity to study both economic theory and inner working of a modern factory. They take Russian, Mathematics, Informatics and Science.
Humanities is a study program popular among students all over the world because of its curriculum based on Linguistics, Social studies, Culture and History. Enrollees typically take Russian, the Russian history, the World history and culture, and Informatics.
All study programs last 9 months - from October till June.
The number of students at the Preparatory Department is growing each year; it is getting more and more diverse. More than 150 people from 64 different countries such as Australia, Argentina, Germany, Israel, Spain, Italy, Canada, Mexico, USA, France and South Korea have graduated from this study program since 2015.
It is necessary for international students to take preparatory courses first to enter degree programs of Russian universities.
“Graduates of the Preparatory Department often continue their education at ETU or other universities of St. Petersburg as Bachelor’s, Master’s and Postgraduate level students. Many young people from overseas who strive to get enrolled at Russian universities often choose ETU.”
Non-Russian citizens can get enrolled at the Preparatory Department by receiving a grant from the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation or on an independent basis. To get enrolled you need to fill out the application form and submit scan copies of all relevant documents by August 15th. Tuition fee is 150-160 thousand rubles. Dormitory housing is provided for students of the preparatory department.
