“Knowledge Day”, often simply called 1st of September, is the day when the school year traditionally starts in Russia. First-year students participate in a big celebration on this date.

On September 1st, 2012 first-year students, their parents and friends came to SPb ETU “LETI”. A sunny day without wind and rain made the ceremony more pleasant and enjoyable. All students were greeted by live sculptures at the university gate. Five silver statues represented the following: two Greeks – education, a statue in Master’s cap – studying process, two other statues illustrated a Russian famous saying "education is light, lack of it is darkness".

The celebration started with some exercises: students in T-shirts warmed up the audience with cheerful dancing.

The chancellor of LETI Vladimir M. Kutuzov congratulated freshmen with the beginning of student life wishing them to find new friends, to get new experience in LETI and in some years to become successful graduates of the University.

According to the old tradition the university flag was raised, while the anthem of LETI was playing.

Dancing, singing and other performances were shown to the guests of celebration. A group of Chinese students held a nice congratulatory speech in Russian.

Then Deans of all faculties were introduced to the audience and some students (the winners of academic contest) received their student cards on stage.

The beginning of a new academic year started with a positive mood of young students and teachers of LETI.
