The “Gems of Russian culture in the Russian language” summer school was held at ETU for the first time. 11 students from Cyprus and Greece participated in this unique program that was aimed at providing students with Russian language competence, knowledge of Russian history and culture; immerse them into the cultural and historical context.

Before the certification ceremony Aleksandra V. Kilina, Head of the Preparatory Department for International Students, and Renat A. Yalyshev, Head of the International Students Office, thanked the participants and their group coordinator – Natalia Tursidu, head of a TRKI academic center in Limassol (Cyprus).

“We hope that you’ve spent your time usefully. You had an opportunity to practice Russian, learn a lot about our culture and, most importantly, communicate with native speakers.”

The two-week language immersion at ETU helped some of the students start learning Russian and some of the students upgrade their knowledge and practice the language. The guests also visited Pushkin, Peterhof and many other beautiful sights of St. Petersburg such as St. Isaac’s Cathedral, Kronstadt Naval Cathedral and Hermitage.

“We decided to hold this summer school for you with the hope that it would continue next year. As an organizer of this program I would like to express my gratitude to professors of the Department of Russian Language. We all wish you success in the future and would like to invite you all back to ETU once again.”

Natalia Tursidu also expressed her gratitude to representatives of ETU.

“We all would like to thank you on behalf of the school. We are very pleased with lessons, the way everything was organized, your warm welcome. Those of my students who were afraid to go to Russia, started seeing Russia and Russian people differently. I teach Russian as a foreign language not for the students to use it in their careers but for them to fall in love with Russia.”
