"Current issues of linguistics"
The third Interuniversity scientific and practical conference "Current issues of linguistics" organized by the Foreign languages Department of our university was held on April 15-16 at LETI.
The third Interuniversity scientific and practical conference "Current issues of linguistics" organized by Foreign languages Department of our university was held on April 15-16 at LETI. The event brought teachers and students from St. Petersburg, Moscow and other Russian cities, including Novosibirsk and Vladivostok all together. Foreign guests from Warsaw, Minsk and Kharkov participated actively.
Teachers of the ETU, St. Petersburg State Polytechnic University, Institute of Foreign Languages and the University of Warsaw performed at the plenary session. One of the speakers was a 2nd year student of the Department of Foreign languages Rinat Karabanov, who spoke about his discoveries in the field of Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP).
Communication within the first day of the conference continued in a form of round-table discussion during which future linguists met with alumni. Great interest was aroused by the story of Foreign languages Department assistant Maria S. Sigaeva about work on supporting of foreign delegations at the Olympic Games in Sochi. Also graduates working in the fields of tourism, hospitality and education performed during the round-table discussion.
The next day, the conference continued its work in sections, which included reports on lexicology, stylistics, literary criticism, intercultural and interpersonal communication, as well as sociolinguistic issues. Master class on modern translation technology was held by translator and consultant PhD Alexander Murzakov.
For foreign participants conference ended with bus trip to the main sightseeings of St. Petersburg, which was conducted by assistant professor Foreign languages Department Olga Preobrazhenskaya.
