In the summer of 2016 delegation of scientists from Italy, Cuba, Mexico and Argentina visited the Department of Quantum and Optical Electronics of ETU "LETI".

In the course of the meeting which took place on June 22 foreign guests made some scientific reports. Head of the PHEMADIC division (Physics and Electronics of Materials, Devices, Interfaces and Contacts) at Paris Electrotechnical Laboratory (GeePs) Jean-Paul Kleider read the report "Physics of the a-Si:H/c-Si interface» dedicated to the physical capabilities to increase efficiency of solar cells based heterostructures.

It’s necessary to mention that LETI graduates are members of the research group at Ioffe Institute which developed solar cells with an 22% efficiency using the new HIT technology (Heterostructure with intrinsic thin layer).

Lecturer of Autonomous University of Mexico City (Mexico) Tupac Garcia described the synthesis of nanoparticles by laser ablation in solution. This technique allows to control size of nanoparticles. It’s very important for their industrial production and practical use, because size of the particles affects on their physical properties.

The official part of the visit included preliminary negotiations as well. Talks were held on 1 July and were dedicated to the cooperation of ETU "LETI" with Center for Optical Research at La Plata National University (Argentina), Research Center for Applied Science and Advanced Technologies at Autonomous University of Mexico City (Mexico) and European Laboratory for Nonlinear Spectroscopy "LENS" at University of Florence (Italy) in the following fields:

  • optics of complex systems;
  • nanophotonics;
  • solid nanostructures;
  • extreme optics;
  • nonlinear optics and precision spectroscopy;
  • organic molecules for quantum optics.

At the negotiations ETU "LETI" was presented by Head of the Department of Quantum and Optical Electronics Valentin P. Afanasyev, assistant professors of the Department of Quantum and Optical Electronics Vadim A. Parfyonov and Georgiy A. Konoplyov and assistant of the Department of Quantum and Optical Electronics Dmitriy N. Redka.

On the foreign side the meeting was attended by the Head of the Laboratory of Laser Technology at University of Havana (Cuba) Luis Vidal Ponce Cabrera, professor of University of Havana (Cuba) Teresa Flores Reyes, professor of University of Florence (Italy) Maurizio Becucci, professor of National Autonomous University of Mexico City (Mexico) Tupac Garcia and professor of the Center for optical research at La Plata National University (Argentina) Gabriel Mario Bilmes.

Luis Vidal Ponce Cabrera who represents University of Havana (Cuba) as well as the National Polytechnic University (Mexico) informed that in accordance with the intergovernmental agreement between Republic of Cuba and Russian Federation the funding for joint Russian-Cuban research projects is expected to receive before the end of 2016. He mentioned that his organisations are interested in joint research in the field of laser applications for the preservation of cultural heritage, as well as in the field of photovoltaics.

Maurizio Becucci said that he is the coordinator of the international European LaserLabEurope program funded by the European Union which provides the research infrastructure for European universities and research institutes to carry out research on current trends in laser physics and laser technology. Since 2016, this program is open to the participation of scientists from Eastern Europe, including Russia. In addition, he informed that University of Florence is interested in cooperation with the ETU "LETI".

At the end of the meeting Tupac Garcia reported on the interest of National Autonomous University of Mexico City in the development of cooperation with the ETU "LETI" in the field of laser technology and photovoltaics. At the beginning of 2016 the Mexican government has announced a program of scientific and technical cooperation between Mexico and Russia, which opens new opportunities for collaborative research projects of Russian and Mexican scientists. Tupac Garcia promised to inform the representatives of the ETU "LETI" about terms and conditions of participation.
