Scientific and practical symposium "Energy of Thought" was held within the framework of Laureate Week of International Energy Award "Global Energy" on May 20, 2014 at LETI.

Laureates of "Global Energy" 2014 performed at LETI with their reports. Academician Ashot A. Sarkisov talked about "Contribution to the improvement of nuclear safety and decommissioning of nuclear facilities".  Lars Gunnar Larsson made a report about "Contribution to the improvement of nuclear safety and decommissioning of nuclear facilities."

Ashot Sarkisov stressed the need for urgent action of ensuring radiation safety of the Arctic region due to the presence of submerged nuclear facilities here. The greatest concern is two nuclear submarines - K-27 and K-159, in reactors of which uncontrolled chain reaction can start. Problem became more and more acute since large-scale exploitation of hydrocarbons are planned at northern seas shelf.

Lars Gunnar Larsson poured in tributes to LETI noting that the whole atmosphere of the university reminded him of his youth and years of study. "It’s the first time when I’m in the walls of your university, but I hope not the last. Keep your traditions and think about the future, and work for the future," - said Swedish scientist. In his lecture he devoted much attention to activities of international experience on improving safety of nuclear facilities and its participation in various international projects in this field including cooperation with Russia.

Winners of All-Russian competition of youth research project "Energy of youth", representing universities and research organizations of various regions of Russia, perfomed with short messages at the symposium.

International Energy Award "Global Energy" is one of the most prestigious international prizes awarded for outstanding scientific achievements in the field of energy that brought benefit to all mankind. The award was established in 2002 and is awarded annually. During twelve years of its existance 31 scientists from UK, Germany, Iceland, Canada, Russia, USA, Ukraine, France, Sweden and Japan became its holders. Prize "Global Energy" has informal name "Energy Nobel". Fund "Global Energy" implements extensive youth program, creates the most favorable conditions for development of research and scientific initiatives of young scientists and their professional growth.

The symposium in "LETI" is a tribute to the oldest Electrotechnical university where outstanding domestic scientists, who had done a lot for the development of energy, worked. It will give new impact to research and development of university scientists, as well as to fruitful contacts with the fund "Global Energy".
