XI City student's evening of east poetry took place in the Theatrical concert hall of A. P. Petrov at Saint-Petersburg University Of The Humanities And Social Sciences on March 1, 2016.

Foreign students of "LETI" successfully presented our University at the competition: Nigerian Babajide Anthony Oluvagbemiga (first-year student, Faculty of Industrial Automation and Electrical Engineering) gained diplomas for the second place, Vietnamese student Dam Quynh Anh (first-year student, faculty of Humanities) became the third.

Students of 16 higher education institutions of St. Petersburg took part in the event. Poems of east authors have presented young men and girls from Russia, China, India, Vietnam, Yemen, Indonesia, Nigeria, Iraq and other countries.


Emcees were Honored artist of Russia Sergey Novozhilov and vice-dean of Faculty of arts Saint-Petersburg University of the Humanities and Social Sciences of Svetlana Sokolova. Performances of participants were estimated by jury which consisted of Honored artists of Russia Nikolay Burov and Roman Gromadsky, the judge of Constitutional court of Russian Federation Gadis Gadzhiyev, writer Alexander Melikhov, chairmen of Committees of Administration of St. Petersburg Renata Abdulina and Andrey Maximov, Consuls general of Japan, Kazakhstan and the People's Republic of China, Honorary consuls of Pakistan and Tajikistan, director of Institute of east manuscripts of the Russian Academy of Sciences Irina Popova, and rectors of the leading higher education institutions of the city.

Evening of east poetry is the response of St. Petersburg youth to the ethnic conflicts which overflowed Europe. The competition was founded in 2006 by the initiative of Dr. h.c. , writer Daniil Granin by Council of rectors of St. Petersburg, the Congress of St. Petersburg intellectuals and Saint-Petersburg University of the Humanities and Social Sciences. A main objective of the event is education of cross-cultural mutual understanding and strengthening of friendship between people by means of poetry.
