Youth exchanges: European level of knowledge
Last academic year was fruitful for ETU regarding youth exchanges with Germany. Mutually beneficial cooperation of two countries extends and has huge recognition in the student's environment.
In July, 2017 official closing of Russian-German Year of youth exchanges 2016-2017 was held. According to the Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation Olga Vasilyeva, "it provided to thousands of young people from Russia and Germany a fine opportunity to get acquainted closer, to understand each other better and to get invaluable experience".
Proclaimed in March, 2016 at a meeting of Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Moscow, Russian-German Year of youth exchanges was organized for the purpose of establishing direct communication between representatives of youth of two countries and solidifyings of dialog and mutual understanding between them. Within the project the set of different actions among which scientific seminars, cultural festivals, competitions and sport contests took place.
Last academic year was fruitful for ETU regarding youth exchanges with Germany. In 2016-2017 academic year with financial support of DAAD (The German service of the academic exchanges) four second-year students of Master course of Faculty of Industrial Automation and Electrical Engineering had internship in Leibniz University of Hanover. Elena Gudz carried out work on subject "Power Supply for Automated Welding", Sergey Fedorov studied numerical modeling of thermal screens in induction heating system, Alexey Berezin conducted a comparative research of software for analysis of distribution of harmonicas on a network, Ilya Skrigan was engaged in development of laboratory installation for glass IPHT on the basis of 3D electromagnetic model. At the end of the internship students provided reports within a colloquium. All necessary equipment, ADP equipment, software and also access to library was provided to students. Thanks to departure to Hanover, ETU undergraduates gained interesting and useful experience in European laboratories and exchanged the ideas of scientific development with students from other countries.
Within joint project of ETU and Technical University of Ilmenau – Russian-German engineering faculty of ETU-TU of Ilmenau (RUGEFAK) – the second-year student of Master course of Faculty of Electronics Gleb Novikov did internship and externship in the partner university.
In July, 2017 German student Alexander Kuhn completed a course in "Computer Technologies and Methods of Extraction of Knowledge" within vocational summer schools for foreign students.
Joint work of Russia and Germany will continue in the new academic year. In September four students from Ilmenau, Hanover and Düsseldorf will arrive to ETU. They will study at Department of Radio Microelectronic and Radio equipment technology, Department of Computer Aided Design, Department of Automation and Control Processes.
Tradition of Russian-German exchanges in ETU started long ago, when in the 19th century internships at leading enterprises of Germany were organized for students and teachers of Electrotechnical Institute of Alexander III with assistance of Karl Heinrich von Siemens.
Close contacts continued also at the time of the Soviet Union: from 1952 to 1996 349 German young men and girls graduated from ETU. Among the most successful graduates is CEO of DEN GmbH company Werner Ditch (graduate of 1972) and co-founder of graduates association of the Soviet and Russian higher education institutions in Germany GoEastGenerationen Matthias Nagel (graduate of 1979).
Every year mutually beneficial cooperation of two countries extends and has huge recognition in student's environment. In general, organization of educational trips to foreign higher education institutions, internships and practices at leading enterprises of the world, along with active work on attraction of the leading foreign scientists to ETU, creation of the comfortable environment for foreign students allows to establish system cooperation with world higher education institutions and scientific centers, promotes growth of recognition of the university in the world, to increase its international competitiveness, development as international and academically mobile university.
